Early in her teens, Tammara enrolled at the local boxing club in Shawinigan, coached by her father in his spare time. She soon caught the eye of a Boxing Canada alumnus, who took the young woman, by then six feet tall, under his wing and brought her to train at the Institut national du sport in Montreal.
Tammara continued to make progress under the watchful eye of João Carlos Barros. In 2017, she won the gold medal at the Canadian Championships. One year after earning a bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, she snagged a silver at the Pan American Games. In Lima, she finished with a bronze, but the disqualification of her Columbian opponent for doping in the semi-finals hoisted Tammara up a level. Two months later, she won another bronze at the World Championships in Russia.
In her Olympic début at the Tokyo 2020 Games, Tammara made it into the quarter-finals, tying Canada’s best finish in women’s boxing in any category. In May 2022, Tammara won the gold medal at the IBA Women’s World Championships in the midweight category.
In addition to training full-time, Tammara has completed a BA in Urban Planning and Urban Studies at Concordia University in Montreal.
