KIM
BOUTIN

At her first Olympic Games in PyeongChang, Kim Boutin was the only Canadian to win three medals. She started by winning the bronze in the 500 metres, then another bronze in the 1,500 metres, and finally the silver in the 1,000 metres. She won bronze at the 2022 Games in Beijing.

Kim is the fourth Canadian athlete and the second woman to take home at least three medals for her country at the same Games. She is also the second woman in the world to win a medal in three individual short-track speed skating events at the same Olympics.

Her achievements, and her resilience, made her the obvious choice as the flag bearer for Canada at the closing ceremonies of the Games. Known as an athlete who thrives on a challenge, Kim is one of the best skaters in the world. Kim has kept up the post-Olympic pace, confirming that she truly belongs in the ranks of the world’s top skaters. She ended the 2018-19 season with three medals at the World Championships and started the following season by becoming the first woman to skate under 42 seconds in the 500m race. She went on to win 8 gold medals that same season.

At the 2022 Games in Beijing, Boutin won a bronze medal in the 500m, a redemption for the skater who had paused the year before to concentrate on her mental health. She then went on to win 5 silver medals at the World Championships that same year. Kim is the greatest advocate for a balanced sport-mental-education lifestyle and went on to prove that this can be a winning combination. After missing half of the 2023/2024 season, she came back winning bronze in her trademark event, the 500m. Her sight is now set on 2026.
